Chapter 35: Want to Play a Game?
Shen Zhoudu covered the cheek that had been kissed and turned his head in disbelief to stare at Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu looked at him with a grin, like a child who had just pulled a prank and was observing an adult’s reaction.
Shen Zhoudu clearly knew that no matter what, the current Meng Weiyu could not possibly have kissed him because he liked him. But who could resist being kissed by the beloved little cat and not feel their heart bloom?
He stared dumbly at Meng Weiyu. His complaints would not come out. His thoughts of scolding him had long vanished like smoke. In the end, maintaining that tiny bit of dignity, he turned his face away again and looked out the window, ignoring him.
“Hahahaha.” Meng Weiyu laughed while holding his stomach.
Shen Zhoudu had long known that he was strange, so he firmly ignored him and only looked at the scenery outside the window.
Unfortunately, the window could reflect a person’s face. Meng Weiyu leaned forward and looked at Shen Zhoudu through the reflection. Shen Zhoudu was still touching his own face. His attitude had obviously softened, and because of the changing light, Meng Weiyu could even see that he was shy. Shen Zhoudu lowered his head slightly, and with his movement, his hair covered part of his cheek.
“Crunch, crunch.”
Noise kept sounding behind him.
Shen Zhoudu: “…”
The romantic thoughts were cut off by the annoying sound.
For convenience in observing Shen Zhoudu’s reflection, Meng Weiyu simply placed his chin on Shen Zhoudu’s shoulder. Then he stared at the window while stuffing potato chips into his mouth.
With this utterly unromantic behavior, no matter how much Shen Zhoudu fantasized, he would be dragged back to reality.
The reality was that Meng Weiyu did not like him at all.
“Don’t…” Shen Zhoudu frowned and turned his head to look at him.
“Hm?” Meng Weiyu’s gaze turned upward, meeting Shen Zhoudu’s eyes.
“Don’t eat potato chips on my shoulder.” Shen Zhoudu frowned. “If the chips fall on my clothes later, it’ll be troublesome.”
“Isn’t your stomach hungry?” Meng Weiyu asked for the second time. They were in the car now, and this bag of potato chips was the only food.
“I already said I’m full from anger,” Shen Zhoudu said, having no appetite.
Meng Weiyu specially picked out a whole potato chip, bit the edge with his teeth, then lifted his face and closed his eyes toward Shen Zhoudu.
Are you really not eating?
Shen Zhoudu, who had just been inwardly mocking himself for refusing to face reality, instantly revealed an extremely conflicted expression.
Meng Weiyu secretly lifted the lid of his right eye and saw Shen Zhoudu’s rare helpless appearance. He nearly laughed himself to death.
Seeing his sly gaze, the corner of Shen Zhoudu’s mouth twitched. He firmly refused to jump into such an obvious trap. “Eat it yourself.”
Meng Weiyu opened his eyes with a smile and slowly crunched the potato chip into his stomach.
“What’s with you?” Shen Zhoudu frowned. He could sense that today’s Meng Weiyu was not in the same state as yesterday’s. “Did you cry all your brain matter out last night?”
“Don’t mention me crying last night again.” Meng Weiyu pushed him with his hand and stuffed more potato chips into his mouth.
Twenty-year-old Meng Weiyu had shed seventeen-year-old childishness, and after that, gained even more problems. He seemed to be simply rejecting something, but his tone faintly hid his displeasure. He did not want to reveal his weak side.
“Then what should I mention? The fact that you agreed to my divorce?” Shen Zhoudu had a clear target. He had wanted to settle accounts for a long time.
“Then do you agree?” Meng Weiyu pointed at him with the index finger of his right hand.
“I agreed.” Shen Zhoudu’s face was cold as he grabbed his index finger.
Meng Weiyu immediately shook his hand off forcefully.
Since he agreed, he was not allowed to continue staying in the car driven by Meng Weiyu’s driver!
“Didn’t I agree to Grandmother’s suggestion, divorce you, and then take away what I wanted?” He had already taken away the thing he wanted. “So now you’re mine.”
Hearing this, Meng Weiyu turned away and smiled disdainfully.
“Shen Zhoudu,” Meng Weiyu called him.
“Hm?” Shen Zhoudu listened.
“This method is too boring.” Meng Weiyu put on a contemptuous face.
“That’s true. It’s not as skillful as your methods.” Shen Zhoudu was already unhappy, and now that he thought of some memories, his expression became even uglier.
Meng Weiyu sat on the other side, looking at the current Shen Zhoudu. Then, linking him to the person in his memories, the wicked amusement in his heart expanded without limit.
“Forget it. I won’t argue with a high school student.” Shen Zhoudu once again displayed his self-deceiving magnanimity.
“What if I’m not a high school student?” Meng Weiyu asked him.
Shen Zhoudu glanced sideways at him, gritted his teeth, and said each word clearly, “If you were even one year older, I would definitely make you cry.”
But.
Meng Weiyu thought innocently.
I don’t like being made to cry by others. I prefer making others cry.
Thinking of this, Meng Weiyu silently covered his face.
Only after gaining several more years’ worth of memories did he know that what Shen Zhoudu had said before was not false. The things in that cabinet could only be his collection.
As a rich young master who was good at socializing and liked coming into contact with new things, Meng Weiyu naturally could learn about all kinds of fields.
So, when he had just started university at nineteen years old, on a certain day, through a friend, he very suddenly learned about the ways of another world.
Meng Weiyu thought it was quite interesting, but he had no intention of playing together with that group of people. In this world, where could there be someone who could tolerate an upper-position person like him?
Meng Weiyu, who knew very well that his personality was terrible and that no one could tolerate him, happily entered the crowd, then grandly said goodbye to everyone and set off alone on the lonely road home.
Just as he was about to call Lin Xiao and tell him to hurry over and pick him up, that night, Meng Weiyu encountered a friend he had not seen in a long time.
At a luxurious restaurant, the staff pushed open the door. A dazzlingly handsome man with long legs and a slender waist, wearing a black long coat, walked out from inside. Beside him was a woman of similar age, smiling sweetly while chatting with him.
Shen Zhoudu casually nodded, then walked to the roadside with her and opened the car door for her.
Song Meiming silently sighed. In the end, she still chose to say goodbye to Shen Zhoudu and entered the car alone.
Shen Zhoudu closed the car door for her. After watching the car leave, he sighed heavily.
At the same time, the watch on his wrist reminded him that time was up.
Shen Zhoudu casually flicked his hand, cold and unapproachable, then turned around, preparing to leave this place.
“Rich handsome gege, treat me to dinner.”
The moment Shen Zhoudu turned around, a white figure suddenly approached from behind, placing both arms on his shoulders and resting his face on top. With a charming tilt of his head, he looked at Shen Zhoudu and smiled.
The steady, unruffled Shen Zhoudu was so startled when he saw his face that his foot stepped backward.
Behind him was the road with cars coming and going.
Meng Weiyu stretched out one hand, wrapped it around his waist, and pulled him back. With smiling brows and eyes, he said, “Are you that excited to see me?”
“Why are you here?” Shen Zhoudu looked in surprise at Meng Weiyu, who was wearing a cream-white sweater vest with the shirt inside not even buttoned properly, revealing his collarbones.
In the middle of winter. Freeze to death, you show-off peacock.
“I just finished a gathering with friends,” Meng Weiyu explained calmly. “Did you finish eating with your girlfriend?”
Shen Zhoudu froze.
Thinking of this possibility, Meng Weiyu sadly covered his mouth, looking like he was about to cry. “Even a blockhead like Shen Zhoudu has a girlfriend, but I’m still all alone. Tomorrow, I might as well go play a king’s drawing game and randomly pick someone willing to date me as my girlfriend.”
“Nonsense.” Shen Zhoudu turned his head helplessly. The eyes behind his glasses rolled in a barely noticeable manner.
“How is it nonsense?” Meng Weiyu tightened the hand around his waist, pulling him even closer. His face also leaned in at the same time, wanting to pressure Shen Zhoudu with those eyes full of spring feeling. “These eyes of mine clearly saw you and Song Meiming walking out of the restaurant together. Well, well, well. Back then, I said you disliked me because of Song Meiming, but you stubbornly refused to admit it. Now both witness and evidence are present. If you have any grievances, go ahead and speak!”
Shen Zhoudu had his waist held by him. Even if he wanted to retreat, he could not move. Yet Meng Weiyu’s face kept coming closer and closer. In a panic, Shen Zhoudu looked left and right, only to find there was no escape route at all.
“Hm?” Meng Weiyu pretentiously took the final step closer.
A slightly cold hand covered Meng Weiyu’s mouth.
Meng Weiyu froze and blinked.
Finally finding a way to safely separate the two of them, Shen Zhoudu breathed a sigh of relief.
In the cold winter, whenever one breathed out, white mist rose upward. Shen Zhoudu waited for the mist to leave, stared into Meng Weiyu’s eyes, and scolded him, “Don’t mess around.”
“Mmph.” Meng Weiyu smiled wickedly and gently shook his head, rejecting Shen Zhoudu’s suggestion.
He had come specifically to find amusement in him, after all.
“She isn’t my girlfriend. She’s the daughter of one of my mother’s friends. I was asked to help pass something to her, so we ate together on the way.” Shen Zhoudu solemnly stated this, lest Meng Weiyu keep teasing him. “As for you, your clothes aren’t even properly worn. Where exactly did you go to play?”
Meng Weiyu wrapped his arms tightly around Shen Zhoudu’s waist and turned his body, moving away from the roadside. Only then did he slowly loosen that hand and pull down Shen Zhoudu’s palm that was blocking his mouth.
“You country bumpkin. This outfit’s design is exactly like this. I’m wearing it properly. If you don’t understand, don’t—achoo…” Halfway through speaking, a cold wind blew over. Meng Weiyu turned his head and sneezed.
Shen Zhoudu looked at his frail appearance. Silently, he undid the belt of his coat, unbuttoned it, and pulled both sides of the coat open with his hands.
Seeing him open his coat, Meng Weiyu directly stretched out his hands, passed through the coat, hugged his waist, and buried his face in Shen Zhoudu’s chest.
Shen Zhoudu’s body trembled.
Meng Weiyu was still rubbing around in his arms and sweetly said, “You went to France for a year, and your body became even better trained. You even learned to be so romantic. It’s actually a coat-hug attack. So enviable. If I’d known earlier, I should have worn a coat out too.”
Shen Zhoudu endured and endured. His hands clenched into fists as he gritted his teeth and told him, “I was going to let you wear the coat, not let you hug me.”
“The coat isn’t as warm as gege’s embrace,” Meng Weiyu deliberately acted spoiled.
One minute later, Meng Weiyu was wearing the coat properly and tightly. Shen Zhoudu stood in front of him, buttoning the coat from top to bottom, then tying the belt around his waist and wrapping him up.
Meng Weiyu: “…”
Shen Zhoudu grabbed the collar and looked at Meng Weiyu’s speechless expression, then laughed.
“Hahahahahaha.”
His laughter was as abrupt and abnormal as always.
Meng Weiyu pushed his hand away in disgust.
“You haven’t eaten dinner? What do you want to eat? I’ll treat you.” Shen Zhoudu reached out and carefully pulled Meng Weiyu’s hair out from inside the coat so it would not poke his skin.
Seeing him reveal a gentle smile, Meng Weiyu immediately strode toward him and bumped into him like a little wooden barrel doll.
Shen Zhoudu reached out and hugged him.
“This restaurant isn’t good.” Shen Zhoudu looked toward the place he had just left and quietly complained to Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu widened his eyes and nodded, then nodded again, showing that he understood.
“What do you want to eat?” Shen Zhoudu looked puzzled. “I just returned to China recently and only just moved into this city’s apartment, so I don’t know what’s good to eat.”
“I actually don’t really have anything in particular I want to eat,” Meng Weiyu told the truth.
“Is that so?” Shen Zhoudu asked.
Meng Weiyu nodded desperately.
“Then go home.” Shen Zhoudu was cold and heartless. “It’s already late. Tomorrow, I’ll find a time to eat with you.”
“Ah?” Meng Weiyu was dumbfounded.
“You can wear the coat. I’ll go get the car.” After Shen Zhoudu finished speaking, he gently patted Meng Weiyu’s back. “Where is Lin Xiao? I’ll send you over.”
“You… you’re not mistaken…” Meng Weiyu looked at Shen Zhoudu with a face full of contempt. With this personality, the fact that he had suspected just now that Shen Zhoudu had gotten a girlfriend was truly unnecessary.
Shen Zhoudu looked at his face, thought for a moment, and asked uncertainly, “Then do you want to accompany me to the supermarket, then go to my place so I can make you dinner?”
“Gege!” Meng Weiyu excitedly threw himself at him.
Shen Zhoudu sighed. Meng Weiyu hugged his arm and squeezed together with him. The reason Meng Weiyu became so clingy while the two walked was mainly because the wind had suddenly started blowing, and he was pulling Shen Zhoudu over to block the wind.
“If I catch a cold tomorrow, it’ll be your fault,” Shen Zhoudu said to this ungrateful person.
“You already have chest muscles. When would it ever be your turn to catch a cold? I was just discharged from the hospital a few days ago. You should be considerate of me,” Meng Weiyu said without any shame.
“What happened to you?” Shen Zhoudu asked worriedly.
“I ate the wrong thing…” Meng Weiyu did not say more and only sniffed.
Hearing this, Shen Zhoudu placed his hand on his shoulder and held him close.
The reason Meng Weiyu increasingly liked acting spoiled with Shen Zhoudu was mainly because Shen Zhoudu really fell for this kind of thing.
Of course, such a perfect friend also had small flaws.
“You were sick, and in the middle of winter, you still dared to wear your collar open?” Shen Zhoudu questioned him.
Meng Weiyu stammered, “Be… because it looks good?”
Shen Zhoudu revealed a disapproving expression.
“It does look good!” Seeing him doubt his aesthetic, Meng Weiyu was furious.
“Fine, fine.” He had not said it did not look good. He just thought Meng Weiyu was very unafraid of death.
When they arrived at the parking place, Shen Zhoudu suddenly reached into the pocket of the coat Meng Weiyu was wearing to search for the keys.
“Not this side.” Shen Zhoudu had no choice but to turn Meng Weiyu’s body halfway around before finally finding the keys in the other pocket. He pressed the button, found the car, walked over, opened the front passenger door, and beckoned to Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu looked at the car, then looked at Shen Zhoudu. Suddenly, he shook his head frantically and said, “I’m not getting in!”
Shen Zhoudu froze and looked at him in confusion, unclear what the problem was.
“You’re driving!” Meng Weiyu discovered the problem.
“I’m driving.” Shen Zhoudu nodded.
“I don’t want to! It’s too dangerous! I still have lots of money I haven’t spent yet. Wu, I don’t want to die together with you.” After Meng Weiyu finished speaking, he turned and ran.
“Hey.” Shen Zhoudu closed the car door and quickly went after Meng Weiyu.
As Meng Weiyu ran, he struggled to dig his phone out of the pants pocket inside, preparing to contact Lin Xiao. Only his family’s driver was the most reliable at driving.
While Meng Weiyu was trying hard to find his phone, rapid footsteps behind him approached. Meng Weiyu was startled. The moment he turned his head, he was hugged from behind.
“Caught you.” The person hugging Meng Weiyu spoke with laughter in his voice.
Meng Weiyu froze.
Shen Zhoudu wrapped his arms around Meng Weiyu’s waist, lifted him up, and turned to walk toward the car.
“Ahhh, I’m not going!” Meng Weiyu struggled desperately.
Half carrying and half pushing, Shen Zhoudu brought him to his car. He restrained Meng Weiyu’s movements with one hand, opened the car door with the other, then shoved him inside.
“Bang!”
After closing the front passenger door, Shen Zhoudu quickly went to the driver’s seat.
Meng Weiyu pressed himself against the window and revealed a look of pleading for help.
Save me!
“Fasten your seatbelt,” Shen Zhoudu reminded him.
“I don’t want to! Last time, Ning Wu got his driver’s license and took me out. In the end, he didn’t even make it five meters before crashing into a trash can. I will never trust you newbie drivers again.” Meng Weiyu insulted two people at once.
“I’m different from him. Sit properly.” Shen Zhoudu simply leaned over, held Meng Weiyu down, and reached for the seatbelt on his side.
Seeing this, Meng Weiyu stopped struggling. Instead, he faced forward and called him, “Shen Zhoudu.”
“Hm?” Shen Zhoudu, one hand braced on the seat and the other having just found the seatbelt, heard Meng Weiyu call him and turned his face over.
With this turn, the two of them were extremely close, face to face.
“Using this kind of method to get close to me, have you no shame?” Meng Weiyu had known that if Shen Zhoudu turned his face, it would create this kind of situation. He smiled wickedly. “I know my charm is limitless, but don’t do this whole ‘friend falls in love with me’ drama.”
Shen Zhoudu was used to dealing with all his jokes, but this time, he could not smile. He directly pulled the seatbelt over, buckled it, and said coldly, “Boring.”
“Tsk.” Meng Weiyu’s joke received a low score from him, so he gloomily leaned his head back against the seat.
Shen Zhoudu drove steadily. Meng Weiyu’s worries were unnecessary. Shen Zhoudu was unfamiliar with the nearby roads, so he used navigation to go to a supermarket, then went shopping with Meng Weiyu.
“How long have you been back in China?” Back then, the two of them had been attending neighboring universities in the same city, but less than a month later, Shen Zhoudu had gone to France under his mother’s arrangements. It was said that he would return after a year.
“Only these past two days.” Shen Zhoudu threw food into the shopping cart. “I originally planned to contact you tomorrow.”
Meng Weiyu watched his movements and asked doubtfully, “Are you buying ingredients to make me dinner?”
Shen Zhoudu nodded and looked at the things inside. “Let’s make a simple hotpot.”
“I can’t eat that.” Meng Weiyu hesitated, afraid he would be scolded because of his many demands.
“Hm?” Shen Zhoudu looked at the shopping cart, then glanced at Meng Weiyu’s evasive gaze and suggested, “How about beef fried pasta?”
Meng Weiyu timidly looked at Shen Zhoudu and, risking being disliked, said, “I want beef fried instant noodles.”
“Okay.” Shen Zhoudu continued throwing vegetables into the shopping cart.
“No vegetables.” Meng Weiyu shook his head.
“I bought them to cook for myself tomorrow.” Shen Zhoudu was unaffected.
“Oh.” Meng Weiyu returned to his grinning face and leaned closer. “Although we haven’t seen each other for a year, seeing you again doesn’t feel unfamiliar at all.”
“That’s because during this year, we’ve been chatting all the time.” Shen Zhoudu was already too lazy to complain about how he had been bombarded with messages.
Meng Weiyu pretended to be pitiful again, placing his head on Shen Zhoudu’s shoulder. “I don’t know what Ning Wu has been busy with. Recently, he’s been replying very slowly, so I can only harass you.”
Actually, Meng Weiyu was someone with a strong sense of distance. As long as the other person showed that they were busy or felt that he was being too clingy, he would quickly notice and create an appropriate distance from that person again. But Shen Zhoudu was very strange. He never said Meng Weiyu was annoying, nor did he tell him to stop while he was ahead.
“Be a little nicer to me, and I’ll be good to you too,” Meng Weiyu promised him.
“Just don’t enter the hospital and only tell me after you’ve been discharged,” Shen Zhoudu said, having no other demands of him.
“If you knew I entered the hospital, would you fly back from France to see me?” Meng Weiyu scoffed. Although he was annoying, he also knew some things simply were not things he could trouble others with.
Shen Zhoudu reached out and took a bag of corn from a high shelf, saying lightly, “I would.”
Meng Weiyu froze.
“All right, go find the instant noodles.” Shen Zhoudu had finished choosing what he needed. “What are you doing?”
Meng Weiyu should have been pushing the shopping cart, but he let go of the cart handle with one hand, squeezed to Shen Zhoudu’s side, and pressed close to him.
“What exactly are you doing today?” Shen Zhoudu helplessly pulled his hand out and hugged his shoulder.
“I’m so moved. I almost want to marry you.” Meng Weiyu theatrically raised his hand and wiped away nonexistent tears.
“Mm-hm.” You’d better mean that.
After leaving the supermarket, Shen Zhoudu brought Meng Weiyu back to his current apartment. This place had already been cleaned, and new furniture had been arranged, but the several large suitcases and boxes Shen Zhoudu had brought back were still piled to the side, not yet organized.
“Sit wherever you like,” Shen Zhoudu said. “I’ll go make you dinner.”
“Wow.” Meng Weiyu looked around the apartment where only Shen Zhoudu lived, then took off the coat and casually draped it over the sofa.
When Shen Zhoudu came out carrying two plates of beef fried instant noodles, Meng Weiyu was lying on the sofa playing with his phone. His collar was loose, and a silly smile showed on his face.
“Where exactly did you go today?” Shen Zhoudu frowned.
“Hehe, a gathering of people with similar interests.” Meng Weiyu put away his phone and quickly climbed up from the sofa. “But I already feel like it wasn’t that interesting, so I won’t go again in the future.”
Shen Zhoudu placed the fried noodles in front of him, then handed him the chopsticks.
“I want a fork,” Meng Weiyu said awkwardly.
“Wait.” Shen Zhoudu turned back to the kitchen and changed it to a fork for him.
Shen Zhoudu originally wanted to sit on another sofa, but Meng Weiyu patted the spot beside him, so he could only move over.
“You still added vegetables!” Meng Weiyu had come over to settle accounts.
“So troublesome.” Shen Zhoudu complained while using his chopsticks to pick the vegetables out of Meng Weiyu’s plate.
Meng Weiyu supported his chin with the back of his hand and examined Shen Zhoudu’s movements. He narrowed his eyes, then reached out and used his fork to divide the fried noodles on his plate into two halves. He demanded, “Eat with me. You eat this half.”
Shen Zhoudu had no objection. Strictly following the dividing line he had drawn, he ate from the same plate of food with him.
Wow.
Meng Weiyu sighed in his heart.
“What’s wrong? Weren’t you the one who said you wanted to eat this?” Shen Zhoudu looked at him, completely puzzled when Meng Weiyu did not move. Did he make it badly? But Meng Weiyu had not eaten a single bite yet, so how would he know whether it tasted good or not?
“Nothing. I’m just a little surprised.” Meng Weiyu had always felt Shen Zhoudu’s personality was strong, and that he was high above others—a very typical controller type. Only today did he discover, “You’re so M.”
“Pfft.” Shen Zhoudu nearly choked.
“You eat this plate. I’ll eat yours.” Meng Weiyu pushed the plate in front of him to Shen Zhoudu with a face full of disdain, then took Shen Zhoudu’s dinner from his side.
“I really regret picking you up and bringing you home today.” Shen Zhoudu covered his mouth and stood up, running to the fridge to find water.
“Haha.” Meng Weiyu played with the fork. “Since you like listening so much, do you want to play a little game with me?”
“Hm?” Shen Zhoudu showed a rare expression of genuine ignorance and turned his head in front of the fridge.
“I’m kidding.” Meng Weiyu bit the metal fork with his teeth, the corners of his mouth rising as he said carelessly.
